"Following his involvement in the bullion controversy, Ricardo's next significant publication was his Essay on the influence of a low price of corn on the profits of stock... ALSOP, Richard
Middletown [Conn.]: S. Richards, 1815. 1815 1ed Nootka INDIANS Vancouver Pacific Canada John Jewitt Narrative Slaves John R. Jewitt was a 19th-century English armor maker who is remembered for being taken captive by the native Nootka people in Canada. His 'Narrative', which was written by Richard Alsop, is one of the best sources regarding the people of the Pacific Northwest Coast of North America. It describes phial appearance of the Nootka people, clothing and jewelry, tribal body paints, feasts and ceremonies, and even slave trade and sex slaves.According to Field,"the details of the adventures of Jewett were drawn from Alsop by the indefatigable queries of Also, who after some years declared that he feared he had done Jewett little good, in furnishing him with a vagabond mode of earning a livelihood, by hawking his book from a wheelbarrow through the country. The narrative of Jewett affords us many new and interesting particulars of the life and habits of the most savage of American aborigines. It is probably as faithful a portrayal of them as could be made by an unlettered man, after the lapse of several years. A vocabulary of the Nootka language, containing nearly one hundred words, occupies page 4.Item number: #7984 Price: $550ALSOP, RichardNarrative of the adventures and sufferings of John R. In the 'Försök', Berzelius for the first time gives an outline of his theory as it applies to the problem of mineral classification. Because distinguishing the elements of all compounds as either electropositive or electronegative, and giving to every element a place in a series, and a place defined by the degree of these relations, it seemed to provide a rigorous and complete principle of arrangement. Accordingly in the 'Försök', Berzelius arranged minerals by their electropositive element, and the elements according to their electropositive rank, thus supposedly removing all that was arbitrary and vague in previous chemical classifications of minerals. After the publication of the original Försök in 1814, the noted mineralogist J.F.L. Hausmann wrote a highly critical review of the work. This provoked Berzelius to publish the 'Försök till ett rent kemiskt Mineralsystem' in 1815. With the addition of this supplemenentary monograph Berzelius' mineralogy no longer looked like an 'attempt' but a fully developed mineralogy. This is the separately printed expansion of Berzelius' mineral classification system, based upon the electropositive element. Wherea … [Click Below for Full Description]

BELLASIS, GEORGE HUTCHINS.
Printed by John Tyler, Rathbone Place. The Plates printed by W.B. McQueen 72 Norman Street London, 1815. Large oblong folio, title and dedication [to the Duke of Wellington] + 3 pp. list of subscribers [which number 264 in all] + 2pp introduction + 6 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates drawn by Bellasis and finely engraved by Havell, each with one sheet letterpress text. Bound in the original card wrappers, as issued, the upper wrapper has a printed title 'Views in St Helena' within a decorative typographic border. Verso of wrappers conserved with Japanese tissue, and re-backed with matching cloth spine. These fine plates are of the utmost rarity, with less than 300 sets subscribed. It is doubtful if there were more than that number issued. The execution of both the plates and colouring is very fine. This set retains the original printed wrappers. The final week of Lent and week leading up to Easter, Holy Week includes Palm Sunday, Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Holy Week and Easter Day liturgies attract the biggest crowds of the year. Cultures throoughout the world have distinct traditions like Easter eggs, sculptures of Christ and Great Feasts to echo the theme of resurrection. A tradition dating from medieval times that has spread to other cities in Andalusia, the "Semana Santa en Sevilla" is notable for featuring the procession of "pasos", lifelike wood or plaster sculptures of individual scenes of the events that happened between Jesus's arrest and his burial, or images of the Virgin Mary showing grief for the torture and killing of her son.

This work forms a lovely example of early literature regarding the missionary effort in Africa. Latrobe discusses his own personal experiences and the native customs in addition to the flora and fauna of the area. He undertook this mission in 1815-16 which was to find and assess possible locations for a new missionary station. This was on behalf of the United Brethren. Latrobe discusses his large journey up to Fish River and details the district of Groenekloof and their missionary settlements. With the advertisement leaf to the rear. 1815. quarto gathering of several fascicles, whip-stitched together, totaling 104 manuscript pages, lacks binding (possibly never had one), entries written in ink, in a legible hand, worn at edges, some soiling and tanning, otherwise good, entries dated 16 February 1815 to 11 June 1827.The account book is not signed thus it is unclear who kept it. What is clear is that the keeper was a joiner, and furniture maker. The evidence in the volume also shows the unidentified craftsman lived in what would have been at the time (1815-1827) Northampton County, Pennsylvania, later the southern part of Carbon County (1843).In 1752 Northampton County, Pennsylvania was erected out of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. At that time, all of Northampton north of the Blue Mountains was known as the Towamensing District, "Towamensing" being an Indian word for "wilderness".The Moravians, who established the first white settlement, knew the region north of the mountains as "St. Anthony's Wilderness".By 1768 the district was divided into Towamensing Township on the east bank of the Lehigh River and Penn Township on the west bank and in 1808 Lausanne Township. Was erected out of the upper section of Penn Twp. Penn Twp. Was further divided into East and West Penn, with West Penn being in newly formed Schuylkill County. 1815. quarto gathering of several fascicles, whip-stitched together, totaling 104 manuscript pages, lacks binding (possibly never had one), entries written in ink, in a legible hand, worn at edges, some soiling and tanning, otherwise good, entries dated 16 February 1815 to 11 June 1827.The account book is not signed thus it is unclear who kept it. At that time, all of Northampton north of the Blue Mountains was known as the Towamensing District, "Towamensing" being an Indian word for "wilderness". The Moravians, who established the first white settlement, knew the region north of the mountains as "St. The place names of Penn Township and Towamensing,as well as Allentown, are mentioned in this account book: "July 15th, 1815 Paul Solt in Penn Township Dr. To 1 day of reaping" "[June] 7 [1816] William Kern, Dr. To cash at rafting in Al … [Click Below for Full Description]

DAVIES, Rev. Richard
Brecon: printed by Henry Hughes, 1815. 8vo., ix + (7) + 463 + (1)pp., with four proforma report forms (including two folding) for the Brecon Benevolent School, these loose in binding, one leaf with closed tear, an uncut copy stitched into the original boards, but generally shaken and loose, now preserved in a specially-made book fox, spine lettered in gilt. First edition. A most interesting gathering together of sermons and reports, dated variously 1801-1815, including an Account of the first establishment of the benevolent schools founded at Brecon in honour of the commencement of the 50th year of his Majesty's reign.> There is a long list of subscribers to the fund 'for building a school room', details of payments into 'a permanent fund for the use of this society', a report on the progress of the boys' school, 1811-1814, stating that during that period 172 boys had been admitted into the school (at the same time 10 boys had been expelled 'chiefly for absence'). A similar report on the girls' school recorded that 163 girls had been admitted. There is certainly much here about the school (of which Davies himself was treasurer) and the philosophy behind it. In his Observations on the New School> (p. 67 et seq.) Davies compares the 'systems of education' of Andrew Bell and Joseph Lancaster and concludes that 'as to the outfit of the school', the 'system of Mr. Lancaster . was greatly more applicable to the purposes and finances of a charity school than that of Dr. Bell, from the single circumstance of its not requiring a continued purchase of books' [p.69].
