--- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate. AA.VV.
In 4, pp. (544) totali (presenti varie numerazioni, mentre quella generale e' manoscritta). Cartonatura rifatta.
S.C. Maj. - Mart. Engelbrecht excud. A.V,".

[Click Below for Full Description]

Travers, Henry.
York: printed by C. Ward and R. Chandler, 1740 - xxix(1), (4), 366 pp. 8vo, contemporary panelled calf (rubbed, some wear to corners)Second edition (though not so designated); substantially enlarged, so as to be virtually a new book. Most of the poems from the author's collection published in 1731 are here reprinted. The most notable additions include "The Miller of Trompington, or the Reeve's Tale from Chaucer," and a translation of Books I-II of the Iliad, to accompany the version of Book III already published. With a 23-page list of subscribers. Included are many Oxford and Cambridge names, but the preponderance are from the Yorkshire area, including Laurence Sterne's uncle, Rev. Jaques Sterne, Archdeacon of Cleaveland and Precentor of York. Travers' old friend Thomas Hayter, by now Archdeacon and Prebendary of York, subscribed for six copies. At the end of the preliminaries is a cancel of pp. 123-4; the cancellandum is still in place where printed (Q2), and reveals that the reason for the cancel is that one line of verse had been inadvertently omitted. Wanting a flyleaf at the front; some soiling and signs of use throughout, but a sound copy of scarce book, complete with the half-title. Foxon, p. 820. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Tagli a spruzzo rossi (macchie al taglio centrale), sguardie marmorizzate. Segnacolo. Vignetta xilografica al titolo. Testatine e capilettera ornati o arabescati incisi su legno. [Click Below for Full Description]

Original antique print, titled: 'Jule Cesar'. Julius Caesar seated on a horse, wearing the laurel wreath of the Roman Emperor. Etching/engraving on a verge type handlaid paper. Description: From a series of at least 12 Roman Emperors published by Mariette in c. 1740. Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters.Artists and Engravers: Artist and engraver unknown, to be determined. Published by: I. Mariette. Pierre-Jean Mariette (French 1694-1774). Mariette was a collector and dealer in old master prints, and very knowledgable on prints and drawings, and a chronicler of the careers of French, Italian and Flemish artists. He was a central figure in the artistic scene of Paris for decades. Mariette was born to a reknown family of engravers, book publishers and printsellers in Paris: when his grandfather Pierre Mariette (1634-1716) bought the business from his father in 1657, it was valued at 30,000 items. The family connections put him in contact as a young man with antiquarians such as the comte de Caylus, for whom Mariette would write his 'Lettre sur Leonardo da Vinci.', printed as a preface to Caylus's book on Leonardo's caricatures, 1730. In 1722 he first met the extremely rich patron of the arts Pierre Crozat, whom he advised, whose collection he catalogued and from whose sale he purchased outstanding drawings. After he attended the Jesuit college in Paris, his fat … [Click Below for Full Description]
