Buono, ordinari segni d'uso e del tempo, qualche fioritura e qualche segnatura brunita leggera, qualche leggerissima brunitura ad alcune segnature, timbretto araldico privato ai frontespizi con timbrino poco sopra d'epoca "Duplicato 1890", mancanza di alcuni cm alla parte alta del dorso del primo volume reintegrata d'epoca. Fregio xil sui front. stampati in rosso e nero. Prima assai rara edizione (anche perché l'opera venne da subito inserita nell'Indice dei Libri Proibiti) di questa celeberrima opera del grande filosofo illuminista, storico e giurista nato a Ischitella (Foggia) nel 1676 e morto a Torino nel 1748, Pietro Giannone. "Dell'Istoria Civile" pubblicata nel 1723 in quattro volumi, ebbe da subito enorme fortuna anche all'estero (Inghilterra, Francia e Germania), dove fu tradotta e studiata, mentre la Chiesa ne avversò le tesi ponendola nell'Indice dei libri proibiti e comminando al filosofo una scomunica, in seguito alla quale Giannone riparò all'estero. I temi trattati nell'opera, sviluppati intorno a precisi riferimenti giuridici, forniscono una lucida descrizione della situazione morale del Regno di Napoli, attribuendo le cause della situazione all'influenza negativa della Curia romana. Edition originale. Publiée clandestinement à Rouen par Abraham Viret, cette première version de La Henriade comprend neuf chants avec quelques lacunes. Son grand succès entraîna des contrefaçons, et l'on dit qu'il fut à l'origine de la fortune de Voltaire. Peu s'en est fallu pourtant que le manuscrit ne pérît dans les flammes où Voltaire l'avait jeté un soir de découragement ; c'est le président Hénault qui l'arracha au foyer en y brûlant ses manchettes. To produce the atlas, the Vaugondys integrated older sources with more modern surveyed maps. They verified and corrected the latitude and longitude of many regional maps in the atlas with astronomical observations. The older material was revised with the addition of many new place names. In 1760, Didier Robert de Vaugondy was appointed geographer to Louis XV.Gilles and Didier Robert De Vaugondy produced their maps and terrestrial globes working together as father and son. Globes of a variety of sizes were made by gluing copperplate-printed gores on a plaster-finished papier-mache core, a complicated and expensive manufacturing process, employing several specialists. Catchpenny print. Children's print showing the four seasons and corresponding activities. The first illustration, spring, shows farmers sowing in the foreground, and pruning trees in the back, accompanied by the verse ‘De vroege Lente praald met keur van schoone Bloemen / Die elk om haar Cieraad / en heerlijkheyd mag roemen.' Summer depicts people and a cowing resting in the field, where the trees have come into leaf, and while in the background a couple is taking a stroll. The verse below reads: ‘De Zomer schenkt vermaak aan Klaverrijke Dalen / Daar Menchen / ende Vee / een frissen adem halen.'
