First edition. Le Courreur was "docteur en théologie". His work deals with bills of exchange but also with usury, and was heavily attacked by J.L. Le Semelier in his "Conférences de Paris" and especially by Jacques Hernis in his "Traité de l'usure avec les réponces au traité de la pratique des billets" (R. de Roover, l'évolution de la lettre de change, p. 224). Description: Several of Lefebvre's prints were published together in 'Opera selectiora [.]' in 1682. This plate was probably part of this. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Valentin Lefebvre' after 'Paolo Veronese'. Valentin Lefebvre (Brussels; c.1642-1682) was a Flemish artist and engraver / etcher. At a young age he appears to have gone to Venise to develop a style similar to Veronese. As an etcher / engraver he mostly worked after Veronese, Titian and Tintoretto.
