WORLIDGE, John
WORLIDGE, John. Vinetum Britannicum or, A Treatise of Cider, and such other wines and drinks that are extracted from all manner of fruits growing in this kingdom : together with the method of propagating all sorts of vinous fruit-trees : and a description of the new-invented ingenio or mill, for the more expeditious and better making of cider : and also the right method of making metheglin and birch-wine. [26], 186, [6] p., [2] pp. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 2 full-page engraved plates. 8vo.,178 x 115 mm, bound in full English contemporary calf, brown title label on spine. London: [Thomas Dring], 1676. First Edition. One of the first books to thoroughly document the process of cider-making and also the first book to discuss the viability of cider as an industry specific to the British Isles and its climate. Worlidge describes in great detail the process of cider-making, propagating fruit, diseases, the preparation of land for planting orchards and highlights the profits in doing so. He also offers a new idea: that landowners consider the benefits of growing cider fruit and making cider as an economically advantageous agricultural alternative to traditional farming. Front hinge cracked, still a nice unsophisticated copy in its seventeenth-century English binding. Wing W3608. Cagle 1069. Simon BG 1632. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Kielmansegg.]
Utan ort, 1676. 4:o. (2),+ 24 s. Återkommande svag fuktrand. Insatt i senare omslag av skrivpapper. Ur Ericsbergs bibliotek. VD17 384:709845U. Ej i Bibl. danica.

BOECLERUS, Johann Heinrich.
- Stockholm, Nicolai Wankijff, 1676. 4:o. (22),+ 580,+ 48,+ (62) s.

Isaac Barrow
Osnabrugi [Osnabruck]: Johan.Georg.Schwanderum, 1676 A fair copy of an early edition of Isaac Barrow's classic translation of Euclid's work. Isaac Barrow (1630-1677) was a mathematician, classical scholar and theologian. He is principally known for his work on tangents and Calculus. He was one of Isaac Newton's teachers. This translation of Euclid from the Greek to Latin was his first work. The full leather binding is falling apart: the front board is detached; half the spine is present but detached; and the back board is still attached. Contents: blank; title page; preliminaries 6pp; text with numerous diagrams pp 1-376; half title Euclidis Data 1675; note; text pp 379-424; finis. The front endpaper and the initial blank have been joined by some tape and some sellotape. Apart from that, the contents are in very good clean condition. There is a signature of Walter Stephen to the top of the fep and also to the side of the title page, and a further note in the same hand on p29. There is a very small worm track on pp 353-369 and 399-411. A leather repair would produce a very nice volume.

It covers every imaginable aspect of the entire continent as far as it was known at the time (indeed sometimes farther!) and the ca. 100 engravings cover topography, ethnology, zoology, botany and more. The account of the islands (including Malta) is usually regarded as a part of the main work, though it has a separate title-page, series of signatures and pagination. COUSIN, Jean
Choulant, 354; Didot, Cousin, p. 118-124; Vagnetti EIIb26. 1676 edition of a celebrated drawing book, written by Jean Cousin the younger (ca. 1522-1595), intended for the use of all kinds of draughtsmen and artists, including painters, sculptors, architects, goldsmiths, embroiderers and cabinetmakers. The woodcuts show anatomical figures or body parts, with notes on the proper perspectives and proportions, influenced by the theories of Vitruvius. Most sources cite a 1571 4to edition as the first (USTC noting “no known surviving copy”), while some note a 1560 folio edition, but the latter may merely be inferred from an advertisement for Jean Cousin the younger's forthcoming Livre de pourtraicture in a 1560 Livre de Perspective , an influential work by his father, the famous painter Jean Cousin the elder (ca. 1490-1560).With a restoration to half-title and some marginal restorations throughout. Very slightly browned and with some occasional small spots. In good condition.

Januar 1805 in Weimar statt.
