A. Hitler
This is a 1675 Edition of "Teutsche Academie der Bau-, Bild- und Mahlerey-Künste" by Jacob von Sandrart that was given to Adolph Hitler by his butler Arthur Kannenberg as a Christmas present in 1938. The front cover is separating and will probably need to be repaired eventually. The pages are in very nice condition. The pages shown are representative of the quality of all the pages. The book is complete at 375 pages. It has all of its numerous drawings and etchings. The quality of the pictures shown are indicative of the quality of the other pages. This first edition, in German, was published in 1675, and is still regarded today as an indispensable source for German history, architecture, sculptures, etc. The other volumes were published in 1679 and 1680. The inscription written by Kannenberg roughly translates to "Our Fuhrer for Christmas 1938 in deep gratitude, your loyal and devoted Arthur and Freda Kannenberg 'House of Hitler'". There are no offensive symbols. Buy with confidence. I have over 2,800 positive feedbacks.

CLARKE, Samuel.
*SAMUEL CLARKE [1675–1729], theologian and philosopher, was born on 11 October 1675 at Norwich, the son of Edward Clarke, cloth manufacturer and MP, and Hannah, daughter of Samuel Parmenter, a merchant of Norwich. Clarke was educated at the Norwich Free Grammar School (1685–90) and at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, a college with strong Norfolk connections. At Cambridge, where he matriculated in 1691, he laid the foundations for the encyclopaedic knowledge for which he was famed in later life. He was noted for the range of his interests and his attempt to span all fields of knowledge in an age when science, and learning more generally, were increasingly becoming the province of the expert. At Caius, wrote Arthur Sykes, one of his later admirers, he 'excell'd in natural Philosophy, in Mathematicks, in Divinity, in Critique [classical studies], as if he had made but one of them his sole study' (Elogium, 1, in Whiston, Historical Memoirs). Clarke first made his mark in the area of natural philosophy. In the disputation held at the completion of his bachelor studies in 1695 he ably defended a proposition drawn from Newton's Principia, a work then understood by few, even within Newton's own university. This performance helped earn for him a fellowship at Caius, a post that he held from 1696 to 1700. His interest in natural philosophy owed much to his tutor at Caius, John Ellis. Although Ellis was a friend of Newton, at this time he largely based his teaching on the more readily accessible Cartesian system. He asked Clarke to translate into Latin Rohault's Traité de physi … [Click Below for Full Description]

Lowndes says, "The Rev. Jos. Hunter... characterizes the Baronage as a work abounding in the most valuable information, and far less inaccurate than a first attempt of the kind might reasonably be expected, where one object was to recall many half-perished names, and to arrange them in exact genealogical order; a work which none can comprehend the nicety and difficulty, but those who have actually made the experiment. HUYGENS, Christiaan
Paris: Jean Cusson, 1675. FIRST PUBLICATION OF THE INVENTION OF THE BALANCE SPRING WATCH, including the famous and much-reproduced engraving of the device. "The second great seventeenth-century advance in timekeeping [after that of the pendulum clock] was the invention of the balance sping. When attached at one end to the balance staff of a spring-driven watch and attached at the other end to the back plate of the watch and set in motion, the oscillation of a spiral hair spring, like the swing of a pendulum, was found to be isochronous. Its employment increased the accuracy of a watch by an order of magnitude comparable to that achieved by the application of a pendulum to a clock. Both applications were the invention of the Dutch mathematician, physicist and astronomer Christiaan Huygens (1629-95). Huygens' early letters written in 1675 to Henry Oldenberg (1618-77), the first secretary of the Royal Society, contain his first disclosure of the secret of the balance spring. The letters were quickly followed by a published description and diagram of the mechanism in the February 25, 1675, issue of the Academie Royale's Le journal des scavans" (Vincent et al, European Clocks and Watches in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (2015), p. 98). Oldenberg read the letter from Huygens to the Society describing his invention of a spring-regulated watch on 18 February 1675 (printed in the Philosophical Transactions on 25 March). Oldenburg strongly supported the concept of Huygens receiving an English patent for his new clock. Robert Hooke (1635-1703) immediately protested that priority for … [Click Below for Full Description]
