EEN VAN DE MOOISTE AANGEZICHTEN VAN LEIDEN OOIT GEMAAKT. ?Lugdunum Batavorum Hollandiae Celeberrimum Et Academia Florentissima?. Visscher in 1650. [Click Below for Full Description]

Stefano della BELLA
Acquaforte, 1647 circa, firmata in basso al centro "Ste. Dla Bella inv. et fe. Cum Pri. Reg.". [Click Below for Full Description]

BACON (Nathaniel)
London, Printed for Walbancke at Grays-Inn-Gate, 1647. 2 volumes in 1. Small quarto, 189 x 143 mms., pp. [xii]. 323 [324 blank, 325 - 335 index, 336 blank]; [xxiv], 307 [308 blank, 309 - 316 index], with second title-page at end of first part, recently rebound in attractive blind-panelled calf, red morocco label. A very good copy. "Bacon's greatest service to anti-Stuart causes came in the form of a political tract entitled An Historical Discourse of the Uniformity of the Government of England, which was probably written using notes collected by John Selden. Published in 1647 to justify the Long Parliament's war against Charles I, with a continuation appearing in 1651, the work has been referred to as 'the English Francogallia' (Burgess, 96). Contemporaries of various political leanings would have agreed. Indeed, according to Bacon's co-religionist and fellow anti-royalist Richard Baxter, An Historical Discourse was one of the four most influential tracts written in support of the parliamentarian cause," (Janelle Greenbery in ODNB).

Thomas A. Kempis P. Chifflet Philippi Chifletii
Antwerp Anvers Ex Ofivina Plantiniana Balthasaris: Voir détails. Thomae A. Kempis Canonici regularis Ord. S. Augustini De imitatione Christi Ex recensione Philippi Chifletii Balernae abatis, nec non Eclesia Metropolitanae Vesontina Canonici et Vicary Generalis Antverpiae Ex. Officina Plantiniana Balthasaris Moreti M. DC. [Click Below for Full Description]

BOISSEAU, JEAN (ACTIVE BETWEEN 1637-1658)
[Click Below for Full Description]

Generally very good, light wear and soil to binding, tide mark from old dampstain to bottom margin, coming into preliminary pages and noticable up to p. 5, after which it almost totally disappears, affecting only minimally the first plate and no other plates after that. The plates are bright and very nice, and the battalion formations have a distinctly modernist feel to them. Very rare. [Attributes: First Edition]

Mattei PORRONI
Roma, 1647. This is the first perspective plan created for the city of Pistoia, commissioned to Francesco Leoncini by Cardinal Rospigl … [Click Below for Full Description]

Thomas A. Kempis P. Chifflet Philippi Chifletii
Antwerp Anvers Ex Ofivina Plantiniana Balthasaris: Voir détails. Thomae A. Kempis Canonici regularis Ord. S. Augustini De imitatione Christi Ex recensione Philippi Chifletii Balernae abatis, nec non Eclesia Metropolitanae Vesontina Canonici et Vicary Generalis Antverpiae Ex. Officina Plantiniana Balthasaris Moreti M. DC. [Click Below for Full Description]

Schottelius, Justus Georg.
Indeed, Beaumont and Fletcher, in their own time and after, are two of the most effective and prolific literary collaborators; and their work continues inspiring scholars and teaching new lessons about the complex matrices th … [Click Below for Full Description]

IOURNAEL.
Arnhem, Jan Jacobsz, 1647. 4to. 80 pp. New half-vellum (old style). (a few pages slightly frayed, some waterstains; a good copy) Very rare eye-witness account of the rising of the Portuguese in Brazil against the Dutch West-Indies Company. From day to day we follow the rebellion, starting on 24 June 1645 with the "treacherous design of Antonio Cavalcante and Joan Ferdinand Viera" up to 28 June 1647, when the yacht 't Waeckend Hert sails off to the Dutch army in Taipicura. The diarist vividly describes the constant skirmishes, the shortage of provisions in the Dutch strongholds, the anxious waiting for reinforcements from Holland. Of course, this account is biased. On the good side we find the Dutch soldiers and free burghers, but also the indigenous people of Brasil ('Brasilianen en Tapoyers'), and the 'Negros'. On the bad side the 'treacherous' Portuguese moradores (settlers), and most despicable of all: the Dutch soldiers who defect to the enemy. Places mentioned are Mauritsstad, Olinda, Bahia, Zira, the island of Tamarica (Itamaraca) , Recife, 't Portael (Pontal), Pariba, Affogados, the fortress 'Kijck in de Pot', Tamandare, etc. Although not the only contemporary pamphlet on the rising in Brazil, it is the first published eye-witness account. Knuttel 5545; cat.NHSM.p.535; Rodrigues (1949) No. 530; Sabin 7593: "Rare tract". Muller, America, 243: "excessively rare".
