Mattei PORRONI
This is the first perspective plan created for the city of Pistoia, commissioned to Francesco Leoncini by Cardinal Rospigliosi a … [Click Below for Full Description]

Acquaforte e bulino, circa 1647. Bibliografia: De Vesme-Massar 89, III/III. Etching and engraving, 1647 approx. Example in the third state of three, with publisher Vincent's address on lower part. Excellent work, printed on contemporary laid paper without watermark, trimmed to platemark, small signs of glue on verso, in general in good condition. On the background, added in the second state, we can see the ossuary of Les Innocents Cemetery in Paris, under whose arches the representation of the Dance of Death took place. This event might have been Della Bella's source of inspiration.

Rarissima edizione. The atlas includes re-issues of Barentsz's 10 maps (first included in "Caertboeck vande Middelandtsche Zee", 1595) of the Mediterranean, with Jansson having completely changed the title and reworked the decorative embellishments, removing many of the great images originally added by Barentsz. Copperplate, original outline colour, in very good conditions. Rare edition, without text on verso.

Giovanni Francesco GRIMALDI detto il "Bolognese" (Bologna 1606 - Roma 1680)
Acquaforte, circa 1647/50, firmata in lastra in basso a sinistra.

BLONDEL, David.
Amsterdam: Chez Jean Blaeu, 1647.

The work by an anonymous author describes the practice of the courts, the forms of writs and an explanation of law terms as they existed during the reign of Edward I. Selden brought this ancient treatise to the public's attention and was instrumental in its publication. While Bracton earns the highest praise as the father of legal learning, Fleta earns a share of it for the illustrations he offered to some of the obscurities found in Bracton. Selden's appended dissertation (pp.453-553) contains many interesting observations about Bracton, Britton, Fleta, and Thornton "a … [Click Below for Full Description]
