Holy Bible
[Antwerp], Raphelengii: officina Plantiniana, 1608. 1608 1ed BIBLE Psalms of David Hebrew Latin Plantin Polyglot Pagnino & MontanoAn incredibly rare, valuable, and desirable early 17th-century printing of the Psalms of David in Hebrew. Printed in Leiden by the Plantin Press, this Hebrew and Latin interlinear edition comes from the famed Latin editions of Saint Pagninus and Benito Arias Montano. Montano was best known for his Polyglot Bible in which he was accused by the Spanish Inquisition of altering the scriptural text from the original Hebrew. Montano sought to prove his innocence by making interlinear editions of the Bible. Like other Montano Bibles, this edition features a 'word-for-word' (interlinear) translation in which the two languages appear on top of each other. BULLANT (Jean) et BOISSIERE (Claude de)
[Click Below for Full Description]

The only edition of Jesuit scholar Jean Voel's work on the construction of sundials and the measuring of time in general, with segments dedicated to clocks and astronomy. [24], 364, [4]; 160, [24]. Title-page trimmed down, a few early leaves and last couple leaves with marginal wear. Occasional browning and/or staining throughout. On display is a unique example of a 1608 Geneva Bible printed by the deputies of Robert Barker printer to the Kings most excellent majestie. It contains the Old and New Testament as well as the Apocrypha. The cover is a light Brown. Both boards and spine are firmly attatched and the book is tight and put together very well. The truly rare part of this Bible is the age. Printed just 48 years after the very first complete English version of the first Geneva Bible. It is one of only a few extremely rare Bibles printed in the early 1600's to have survived the centuries. It has been professionally rebound insuring that everything is tight and well put together. This is an excellent example of a 1608 Bible and of course with virtually anything of this age it is incomplete. While not having checked every page, the Old Testament appears to be mostly complete including the main Title Page which is shown above. It is missing the following. The Apocrypha ends at second Macabees chapter 15. The following section of the New Testament is missing the Title page and a portion of Mathew which starts in Chapter 17 and continues to 1st John with the rest through Revelations missing. That is followed by a first and second Table which is entitled a brief Table of the interpretation of the proper names. This starts with the letter B and continues through to the Second Table ending With W H. While it is incomplete, it is extraordinarily rare to find a Bible in the early 1600's in any condition much less completely rebound. Pictures above show this. Rome, 1608. Engraving. 280 x 395mm. A plan of Arcevia in the style of a bird's-eye view, first published in 1594, but this example with the date altered.
