Die definitorische Neuordnung bildet die Basis für eine Typologie der Wölbformen, die durch Betrachtungen zu sämtlichen Wölbelementen und -details vorbereitet und abgerundet wird. Der Systematik liegt die Dokumentation des gesamten Bestandes figurierter Gewölbe zwischen Saale und Neiße zugrunde. Die qualitative und quantitative Auswertung bleibt nicht nur auf die Gewölbeform und ihre Rippenfigurationen beschränkt, sondern berücksichtigt auch ihre Einbindung in die architektonische Struktur der Baukörper. Ein ikonologisches Kapitel widmet sich den zahlreichen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten von Gewölben und ihren symbolischen Gehalten. Friedrich Christian Benedikt Avé-Lallemant (1809 -1892) berliner Kriminalist und Schriftsteller. Er war maßgeblich am Auf- und Ausbau des Polizeiwesens der Stadt Lübeck beteiligt und viele andere Städte Norddeutschlands übernahmen seine Neuerungen. Nach langen Vorarbeiten entstand 1858 sein heute bekanntestes Werk Das deutsche Gaunertum. Als Anhang fügte Avé-Lallemant eine Zusammenfassung der Gaunersprache bei, die jedoch auf erheblich Kritik in der Philologie stieß.

Musical notation within the text (Eduardo Prado considered this the first Brazilian musical document in existence). Later vellum with new endpapers. Yapped foredge. Woodcut bookstamp laurel wreath crest with initials AIC on title. Slight foxing and toning throughout. A few marginal stains and a couple of closed tears. Repaired paper fault to margin 65/66. Jean de Léry (1536?1613) explorer, writer and Calvinist. He trained for the ministry in Geneva where this volume was published. In 1556, aged 20, he embarked upon the first Protestant Mission to the New World. This is still regarded as the most significant early work on Brazil. Léry's descriptions of the Tupi are so detailed that anthropologist Claude Lévy-Strauss later referred to the Histoire d'un voyage as "the breviary of the ethnographer."
