Giacomo Valegio
Bulino, 1565 circa, firmato in lastra in basso a destra. Molto rara. Bibliografia: Nagler, Die Monogrammisten , 1837: TIB 075. Dimensioni 280x415. Engraving, 1565 circa, signed at lower right. After Marco del Moro. A fine impression, printed on contemporary paper, with thin margins, showing a little paper fold at upper left edge, generally in good conditions. Unknown by Bartsch and Passavant, this rare work is carefully described by Nagler. Madeline Archer lput this work in the doubtful prints by Caraglio. Very rare. FIORENTINO Giovanni
1565. Woodcut printers device on title page, historiated woodcut initials. Italic type. 8vo (155 x 100mm). 227, [1]ff (blank). Modern vellum, with remains of earlier spine label with title lettered in gilt, blue marbled edges. Venice, Appresso Domenico Farri, Rare third edition of this series of novelle from Ser Giovanni Fiorentino. Lines of verse prefacing the start of the tale explain that the work was started, written, and completed in 1378; the first edition was published in 1558 in Milan (the apparent first edition dated 1554 is in fact a counterfeit, printed in Lucca in 1740), based on three surviving manuscripts. This work is one of many produced in the fourteenth century to closely imitate the framework narrative structure of Boccaccio's Decameron, with an overarching story that ties fifty shorter novelle together. The work was popular, and had a marked influence on subsequent writing. The first story on the fourth day, for example, describes a Jewish money lender demanding a pound of flesh from his Christian debtor, thought to be the basis of Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice. 'Fiorentino' was the epithet given to the author in the editio princeps of 1558, and Ser Giovanni has proved an elusive and mysterious figure. The title 'Ser' would suggest that he was a notary, or of a profession of a similar level. Others have speculated that he was the head of an order of Franciscan monks, also called Giovanni; a Florentine gonfaloniere, Giovanni Cambi; a judge; a Florentine jester, active in Naples; and some have posited that the title of this work, Pecorone (meaning 'big … [Click Below for Full Description]

NELLI NICCOLO'
Acquaforte e bulino, mm 315x430, firmata e datata in lastra in basso a destra. Ganado elenca oltre 60 stampe in soli 10 anni.Ganado, A study in depth of 143 Maps representing the Great Siege of Malta of 1565, pp. 30/36, 9.

Antonio LAFRERI (Salins, Giura 1512 - Roma 1577)
[Click Below for Full Description]

Molto rara. Bird's eye view of Tokay. On the confluence of the Tisza and Bodgrod rivers was one of the first Hungarian fortress captured by Zapolya in 1564. But it was recoverd by imperial troops under the command of Lazarus von Schwendi in 1565. The first spectacular success of the Christian party in tha war is the subject of th epresent engraving by Domenico Zenoi, published by Gamocio and Donato Bertelli as a separate. It is the archetype for a number of followers. A magnific example of the first state, before the Camocio address, with full margins, perfect conditions. Very rare. Altomare Donato Antonio.
Title and colophon pages a little darkened, small loss from upper corner of title page, a few margins trimmed close with loss of a letter or two of the printed marginal notations. A handful of leaves with early marginalia; overall a very handsome copy.Among 17th century translators, Arthur Golding gained widespread fame in large part due to his English edition of Ovid's Metamorphoses. His work on Caesar was similarly important; for though a 1530 translation of the larger work had already been released, Golding's is considered "the first English translation of De Bello Gallico, with the eight book by Aulus Hircius" (Pforzheimer 140). Near the time Caesar first released his account of the Gallic Wars, his work was declared a stylistic success. "It is bare, straight and handsome, stripped of rhetorical ornament...There is nothing in a history more attractive than clean and lucid brevity" (Cicero). "It is bare, straight and handsome, stripped of rhetorical ornament. There is nothing in a history more attractive than clean and lucid brevity" (Cicero). Over time, it has become a cornerstone reading for military historians and strategists. Golding's translation ensured that English speakers could access the full work. [Attributes: First Edition]

HOROWITZ, Shabbethai Sheftel.
1565. Bibliography of the Hebrew book 000137592; Steinschneider, col. 2241. First edition of a standard introduction to Kabbala, by the Prague rabbi, Shabbethai Sheftel Horowitz (1565-1619). Although the author was in Prague, the book was printed and published in Hanau. It is an impressive piece of book production, 15 years before Menasseh ben Israël set up the first Jewish printing office in Amsterdam. With an eye-like owner's stamp on the title-page. Slightly browned, with an occasional spot, some stains at the head, and an occasional marginal tear, but otherwise in good condition. With the boards somewhat bowed, a large dark stain on the back board, and the supports have broken at the hinges. [Attributes: First Edition]

1565. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. An incredibly rare and important French and Latin translation of Ulrich Zwingli's edition of the Book of Psalms. This book features both Latin and French in parallel, including the French translation of Johannes van Campen. Zwingli was one of the most important leaders of the Protestant Reformation and helped lead Swiss Protestants on the reforms of the Catholic Church. According to Renouard Bible Catalogue, "this version and paraphrase is very well done, and is often useful for the interpretation of certain passages almost unintelligible in the Vulgate.".
