Bernardo Gamucci
ont> Gio Varisco e Compagni : Venetia, 1565 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First edition.. A very scarce study on the antiquities of Rome by Bernardo Gamucci. The first edition of this work. A very early, fully illustrated guide book to Rome. Collated complete. This copy belonged to Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun (1655-1716). With his signature to the rear pastedown. Fletcher was a Scottish bibliophile, author and friend of noted philosopher John Locke. His library amassed 6,000 books and he spent much of his life visiting bookshops in search of works of interest across a wide range of subjects. Leaves Bb3-Bb4 (197-200pp) are misbound. 199-200 misbound between pages 2-3, 197-198 misbound between pages 6-7. With seventeenth century endpapers. In the original Latin. Illustrated, with one folding plate and thirty-eight woodcut illustrations. Woodcuts are after drawings by Giovanni Antonio Dosio, an Italian architect and sculptor. Dosio first arrived in Rome in 1548 where he joined workshops by Raffaello da Montelupo and Guglielmo della Porta. Dosio's architectural drawings are original works rather than copies. Campbell notes that they are 'mostly orthogonal, but occasionally perspectival'. To the foot of the colophon there is a note 'Relic A Castres 10br. 1653. par Des Bords'. Very little is known of the author, Bernardo Gamucci. To the preface of this work he is referred to as an architect and antiquarian from San Gimignano. Dosio was also from San Gimignano and the dedication of this work to the Grand Duke of Florence further links the Tuscan origin of the collaborators. Gamucci w … [Click Below for Full Description]

LUCRETIUS.
Parisiis, In AEdibus Rouillij, via Iacobca sub signo co[n]cordiae. Cum privilegio Regis. 1565. Parisiis, In AEdibus Rouillij, via Iacobca sub signo co[n]cordiae. Cum privilegio Regis. 1565. Small 8vo, 123 x 78, pp. [xxiv], 277 [sic, for 287, 288 blank. 289 - 303 variant readings [3044 blank, 3055 - 318 index], woodcut title-page, with scrolls, column, faces within heartshapes, etc., later (probably 18th century) limp vellum, leather label; some small inkstains on early leaves, some very slight worming, front hinge almost complete open, with inner spine exposed. The text has been prepared by Adrianus Turnebus (1512 - 1516), and as Wikipedia notes, "At the age of twelve he was sent to Paris to study, and attracted great notice by his remarkable abilities. After having held the post of professor of belles-lettres in the University of Toulouse, in 1547 he returned to Paris as professor (or royal reader) of Greek at the College Royal. In 1562 he exchanged this post for a professorship in Greek philosophy. In 1552 he was entrusted with the printing of the Greek books at the royal press, in which he was assisted by his friend, Guillaume Morel. Joseph Justus Scaliger was his pupil. He died of tuberculosis on 12 June 1565 in Paris. Montaigne wrote that he 'knew more and better, what he knew, than any man in his age or of many ages past.'" The French classical scholar Denis Lambin (Latinized as Dionysius Lambinus) (1520 - 1572) was first professor of Latin at the College de France and later professor of Greek. One of the great scholars of his age, he is noted as an excepti … [Click Below for Full Description]

DELFINO Domenico
Così Bongi,I, p. 504-505.

See description below. hippiatria Hippiatria - Marstallerei 1565 plus fragments from two other documents This is a set of one book and two sets of page fragments that appear to be from the 16th century, kept together in a custom case. I am not an antiquarian book dealer and I have no provenance on these items. I have described them to the best of my ability. Feel free to ask questions. The first publication is a book that appears to be called Hippiatria by Marstallerei. It is dated 1565. It is bound in a later fine binding, shown in the photos above. The first half of the book consists of plates that appear to show various bits used for horses. The captions are in both Latin and German. The second half of the book appears to discuss the health and color of horses. It is in German only, in black letter type. This book is in very good condtion, with minor darkening and soiling of the cover and pages. The covers are slightly bowed and there is an ex libris inscription on an older, presumably original page which has been tipped in on the newer pastedown. The name appears to be Christopher Wiley. The collation appears to be complete at 105 consecutively numbered pages. The first four pages have suffered some damage to the lower corner which appears to have been professionally repaired. The text to the first two lower images is missing (see photos). The two images of the horse appear to have been affected by page trimming (see photos). All other pages appear to be intact and legible. There are also two sets of page fragments that appear to be from about the same period. The first … [Click Below for Full Description]

1565. Notre blog : https://librairie-trois-plumes.blogspot.fr/ Notre mail : benoit@troisplumes.fr George Buchanan, Théodore de Bèze, Psalmorum Davidis paraphrasis poetica nunc primum edita, authore Georgio Buchanano, Scoto, poetarum nostri saeculi facile principe. Eiudem Davidis Psalmi aliquot a Th. B. V. versi. Psalmi aliquot in versus ite Graecos nuper a diversis translati Geneve, Robert Estienne, 1565 ou 1566. In-8, [8]-277-46p.

In his last exegetical endeavor Calvin provided a moral model for Reformed believers, one that he hoped would represent the Reformed as people who were law-abiding, morally sound proponents of order and peace (cf. R.A. Blacketer, The Moribund Moralist: Ethic Lesson in Calvin's Commentary on Joshua, in: "The Formation of Clerical and Confessional Identities in Early Modern Europe", W. Janse, ed., Leiden, 2006, pp. 149-168; see also M. Woudstra, Calvin's Dying Bequest to the Church: A Critical Evaluation of the Commentary on Joshua, Grand Rapids, MI, 1960, passim).Calvin started to lecture on Joshua in June 1563 in the Friday congregation and finished his commentary shortly before his death. In the early part of 1564 Calvin's sufferings (fever, asthma, stone and gout - the fruits for the most part of his sedentary habits and unceasing activity) became so severe that it was manifest that his earthly career was rapidly ending. … [Click Below for Full Description]

Molto rara. Bibliografia: Nagler, Die Monogrammisten , 1837: TIB 075. Dimensioni 280x415. Engraving, 1565 circa, signed at lower right. After Marco del Moro.

Adamo SCULTORI (Mantova 1530 circa - Roma 1587)
Bulino, 1565 circa, monogrammato in lastra in basso a sinistra. Engraving, about 1565, monogrammed in the plate in the bottom left corner. Excellent work, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed to copperplate, in excellent condition. It is widely believed that the subject of this work comes from a drawing by Giulio Romano. As emphasized by Ferrara, the composition creates the effect of an ancient bas-relief; the figures are stiff and statuesque. The construction work is to be placed in the period before the artist's departure for Rome, as would suggest the letter A monogram, with the auction convergent. Massari considers that there are two states of the plate, the second of which would show some contour lines rehearse that, according to Bellini would, however, present in all the examples examined by him, leaning toward a single state.
Engraving, 1565, signed on plate with the names of the engraver and t … [Click Below for Full Description]

Lyon: Par Clement Baudin, 1565. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. Chalard In 1561, when Charles IX ascended the French throne, he led a series of 151 articles compromising the Great Ordinance of 1561. French scholar Joachim Chalard published his own commentary and perspective on the ordinances, notes that deal primarily with the corruption within the government. He also discusses the deplorable acts of Catholic clergy, unlawful taxation, trade regulations, the nobility, and the use of military. This 1565 edition is considered exceptionally rare. According to Baudrier, the Clement Baudin editions were much scarcer than those published by Giochard or Rigaud.
