From The Trenches
T. Fisher Unwin 1914 - A first softback edition of one of the very first Great War books (published October 1914) and the first of them to report first-hand in English from the trenches of the Western Front at a time when they were freshly dug. The author went to France with a secret hoard of gold sovereigns stashed about his person to file news reports for the London 'Daily News' while the Germans were still at Namur. Once his career as a war correspondent was brought to an abrupt end Young became a founder of the Friends Ambulance Unit. As a paperback that is now more than 100 years old this book is a rare survivor in any condition but especially with both its card wraps and spine panel still attached. No foxing. No ownership inscription. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]
