Dracula - true first issue and one of the rare presentation copies
Constable 1897 - A first edition, first printing, first state book published by Archibald Constable in 1897 (no adverts and. One of the earliest copies, being one of a small number sent out by the publisher for review. According to Stoker bibliographer Richard Dalby, "the exact date of publication of Dracula is uncertain, but is generally believed to be within the last week of May, coinciding with the earliest newspaper reviews." He goes on to say that copies of the First Issue with "the words Presented by Archibald Constable & Co. blindstamped on the top right corner of the title-page, signify very early copies sent out for review." [Bram Stoker: A Bibliography. Desert Island Books. 2004. pp. 55-56.] This is one such copy. Ownership inscription of Mr Oliver Taylor, Neville Terrace, Durham, 1903, a journalist on the Durham County Advertiser. A good copy with wear to the edges and internally to the hinges.
