Handwritten Lyrics for "Volunteers" and Jefferson Starship's "Miracles"
Two 8.5" x 11" sheets, the first sheet with Jefferson Starship's "Miracles" lyrics handwritten on both sides by Marty Balin (but unsigned), and the second with Jefferson Airplane's "Volunteers" lyrics on a single side by Balin and Signed by both Balin and Paul Kantner. Likely created years later as a souvenir. Both sheets are fine. Balin originally formed Jefferson Airplane, although it was Kantner who was seen to be the leader of the group, and who later went on to form "Jefferson Starship" after Jefferson Airplane began to disband in the early 1970s. "Miracles" was written by Balin and appeared on their 1975 album Red Octopus where it reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, making it the band's highest charting single that they recorded in its "Starship" iteration. "Volunteers" meanwhile was released in 1969 on the album of the same name which made it onto Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Both groups included front woman, Grace Slick, who sang and played piano for the bands and "earned a position as one of the most prominent female rock musicians of her time." .
