A major sale: "cette Collection est composée de Tableaux du Titien, Paul Veronese, Guide, Barochio, Carlociniani, Alexandre Veronese, Tintoret, Fetty, Carrache, Raphaël, Poussin, Claude le Lorrain, & autres." 53 lots. Lord Chesterfield tried to buy the Titians in the sale, having asked his son to view and bid. One of Araignon's pictures, the Erminia Finding the Wounded Tancred by Guercino (lot 85), was acquired by the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh in 1996. Araignon (d. 1756), valet de chambre to the queen and connoisseur, assisted in the acquisition of pictures for the royal collections at the sale of the Prince de Carignan. Fine copy and rare.
