DIE EINGEBUNGEN DES ARPHAXAT. MERKWÜRDIGE GESCHICHTEN. Mit Deckelzeichnung von Richard Teschner
Minden i W.: J. C. C. Bruns' Verlag, 1904.. Octavo, pp. [1-8] [1] 2-295 [296: blank], original pictorial gray green boards, front panel printed in red, white and black, spine panel printed in black, top edge stained red, terra cotta endpapers. First edition. The author's second collection of short fiction and one of his scarcest books. Strobl, a product of the decaying Austro-Hungarian empire, became one of the key figures in the German fantastic literature of the early twentieth century, ranking just below Meyrink and Ewers, both as editor of the important magazine DER ORCHIDEENGARTEN, and as the author of his own weird tales, "where his most enduring work is perhaps to be found ... mingling laughter and horror ..." (Rottensteiner in Magill [ed], Survey of Modern Fantasy Literature, p. 2401). Bloch (2002) 3047. See Lexikon 1, pp. 250-2. Mild spine lean, a nearly fine copy. An exceptionally nice copy of this book. (#136462)
