Japanese Fairy Tale Series, Numbers 1 - 8
Tokyo: Kobunsha, No. 2, Minami Seagicho circa 1885. The first 8 in the series, all but the first two apparently first editions, all with titles on front wrappers in phonetic Japanese rather than being translated into English. English text within. All on plain paper (i.e. not crepe) all illustrated on front wrappers and within with coloured woodblock illustrations, double folded sheets, spines not covered, stab tied with silk cord. Each 7 1/4 x 5 inches. Some corners bumped, some light dust marking, overall good. The eight titles are:No. 1. Momotaro (Momotaro or Little Peachling). 2nd edition [circa 1886].No. 2. Shitakiri Suzume (The Tongue Cut Sparrow). 2nd edition [circa 1886].No. 3. Saru-Kani Kassen (Battle of the Monkey & The Crab). [1885].No. 4. Hanasaki Jiji (The Old Man who made the Dead Trees Blossem). [1885].No. 5. Kachi-Kachi Yama (Kachi-Kachi Mountain). [1885].No. 6. Nedzumi no Yome-Iri (The Mouse's Wedding). [1885].No. 7.
