Vivatbänder von dem Weltkriege 1914. (Cover Title). [Vivat Ribbons of the World Wars, 1914]
Berlin: Amsler und Ruthardt, 1914 - 1915. Folio, original cord tied paper wraps with a large, applied, titled print on the upper cover housing fifty-one original silk ribbons tipped at the top & bottom to thick paper sheets, recto only, three to a page, in support of the Red Cross & relative to World War One. The pictorial ribbons vary slightly in size but average 16 inches by 2.5 inches. Printed in black ink on different colored silk, displaying patriotic slogans & depictions of military (and other) scenes, all but two of the ribbons bear the statement "Zum Besten des Roten Kreuzes" [For the Benefit of the Red Cross]. All of the silks bear the Verlag Amsler und Ruthardt imprint and are dated 1914 or 1915. Many are artist signed (in print) including Matthew Schliestl, Ernst Seidl, Erich Heermann, Hermann Knackfuss, and others. OCLC locates similar titles but this one is apparently unrecorded. Wraps moderately soiled, lightly edgeworn, with a small label at the upper right corner. A few of the ribbons have slight staining where tipped to the sheets, very occasional minor foxing, a couple creases, wraps about Very, Good, ribbons Near FinePossibly compiled rather than published, an amazing assemblage either way.
