Bird's-Eye View of the Borough of Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Daily Eagle. Brooklyn. 1897. - Bird's eye view map / poster, sheet 23 3/4 x 36 1/2 inches. Professionally mounted on linen: map was folded with fold splits and one tear at upper edge, all now visible only on close examination. A panoramic view looking from the northwest with the Navy Yard and downtown Brooklyn in the foreground, reaching as far as Seagate and Coney Island at the right horizon. The Post Office and Eagle Building are named, along with various parks and cemeteries. The smoke stacks and church steeples together with the masted ships at the docks contrast with the extensive unpopulated areas to paint a picture of a vibrant and growing community. Signed by the artist George Welch in lower image. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
