Published by Phaidon in this miniscule edition. A near fine or better example. 8vo., 18pp. Neat repair to a small closed tear on the ffe. Hermann Hesse (1877-1962) German poet and novelist, who depicted the duality of spirit and nature, body versus mind and the individual's spiritual search outside the restrictions of society. Hesse was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1946. Several of Hesse's novels depict the protagonists struggle for enlightenment.
