A Clergyman's Daughter
London, Victor Gollancz. 1935, 1935. First edition. 8vo. 317pp. Expertly bound in recent full black morocco, gilt titles to spine and top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers with gilt inner dentelles. Internally clean and tidy. A lovely copy of one of Mr. Blair's rarer titles (2000 copies published). The author's third novel, 'A Clergyman's Daughter' depicts the ways in which scandal can affect prominent community members, and concerns the trials and tribulations of Dorothy Hare, a young woman whose sad existence, devoted to "good works", is turned upside down; Dorothy goes "missing" after she kisses the village's most disreputable character, Mr. Warburton and it is rumoured that she has eloped with him... Fenwick, G; George Orwell. A Bibliography [A.3a], (1998).
