Hunting Trips in the Caucasus
London: Rowland Ward, , 1898. Octavo (218 × 156 mm) Contemporary tan pigskin on linen boards, title gilt to spine. Frontispiece and numerous illustrations from the author's photographs, folding coloured map in end-pocket. Armorial bookplate of Colonel Gerard F.T. Leather of Middleton Hall, Belford to the front pastedown. A little rubbed, lower joint slightly split, but overall very good. First edition. "Hunting on the sprawling hunting preserve of Grand Duke Mikhailovitch, the author bagged tûr near the Kisha River, with additional hunts after ollen and aurochs. In the Urushten Valley, he stalked ibex and bears. On a second trip the following summer, and accompanied by English physician Dr. H.D. Levick, Demidoff hunted antelopes and ibex in the Araxes Valley. A third journey was made in autumn 1896 with Levick, Mrs. Demidoff, and St. George Littledale forming the party. In the Kouban district, tûr were hunted. Curiously Demidoff only wrote the first segment of this book, the rest penned by Levick but without credit given to him on the tile page." (Czech) Uncommon.
