Devonia vulgo Devon-shire
Amsterdam: , 1664. Size: 530 × 660 mm. Copperplate engraving with beautiful hand colour. Dutch text on verso. Very good condition. This splendid map of Devon typifies the wonderful expertise, and cartographic skills of the seventeenth century Dutch printing and publishing house of Blaeu. Published in Blaeu's monumental multi-volume work; "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" or "Novus Atlas". This striking and most handsome map is embellished with a royal coat of arms, allegorical figures and assorted bird and animal life associated with the county, together with eight delightful heraldic shields of the county nobility, dating back to the Norman Conquest.
