Paris - Brosson; Gabon, 1812. Paris - Brosson; Gabon, 1812 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Anatomie Generale Applique a la Physiologie et a la Mdicineby Xavier Bichat, adoctor atthe Grand Hospice of Humanity Paris, Professor of Anatomy and Physiology. In French. A new edition. Volumes two and four of a four volume set. Marie Franois Xavier Bichat (1771 - 1802) was aFrenchanatomist and physiologist. Bichat is best remembered as the father of modern histology and pathology. Despite the fact that he worked without a microscope he was able to advance greatly the understanding of the human body. He was the first to introduce the notion of tissues as distinct entities. He maintained that diseases attacked tissues rather than whole organs. Bound by Cooper and Co. Limited, Birmingham with binder's label to front pastedowns. Condition: Rebound in cloth. Externally, generally smart but with slight wear to extremities, the odd slight mark to boards and institutional stamps to spines. Front hinge to second volume strained. Internally, firmly bound. Bright but with the odd spot and handling mark, occasional background foxing and institutional ink stamps. Overall: VERY GOOD.
