A Sand County Almanac
First Edition Near fine in decorated blue-green cloth covered boards with silver colored text on the spine and on the front board with an image of six geese in flight. An octavo measuring 8 1/2" by 5 1/4" with minor fading to the edges of the boards as is often seen with this title. There is an interesting gift inscription on the first free end page which is detailed below. In a very good, price clipped, first state dust jacket with no mention of "Round River" on the rear flap. Each of the four corners of the spine area shows small 1/8" to 1/4" chips with similar chips from the fore corners of the panels at the folds to the flaps and two, faint, 1/2" and 3/4" water marks on the front panel. As noted above there is a gift inscription on the first free end page which reads: "To The Rogers | Christmas 1949 | with best regards from Estella" which is followed by a carefully sketched bough of holly with red buds. This note was written by Aldo Leopold's daughter, Estella Leopold in the same year of publication of the book, a year after her father's death. 226 pages of text with illustrations within the text by Charles Schwartz. Aldo Leopold was an ecologist and pioneer of wildlife management. He is considered by many to be the grandfather of the modern environmental movement. This title was published posthumously and sold over one million copies in numerous printings. Authenticity of the signature was confimred by a copy of accompanying correspondence from Ms. Leopold written in November, 2013. Our code number = TB26724
