London: R. And J. Dodsley, 1757. Rebound probably in mid-20th century. Panelled spine with raised bands. Gilt title. Half-title is present. Wide margins. A crisp and clean copy throughout. Remainder of title is "With various observations, characters, and anecdotes; necessary to give light into the conduct of American transactions in general; and more especially into the political management of affairs in New York". The book was written anonymously "In a Letter to a Nobleman" but thought to have been penned by William Livingston and William Smith. It deals with the activities of British forces in North America during the Seven Years' War and specifically with the conduct of Major General William Shirley who was Commander-in-Chief. 144pp. Citations may be found in Howes L401, Sabin 41649, ESTC T45482. We have found two copies residing in libraries in the UK and 25 copies in North America. It has come up for auction 8 times in the past 35 years.. First Edition. Full Smooth Calf. Nearly Fine/No Jacket. Small Quarto.
