Two men camping in Ireland find a mysterious ruin and an old diary which tells of inhuman creatures from the bowels of the earth, a vision of the end of the solar system, and the unbelievable passage of thousands of years in an instant of subjective time!Hodgson, author, whose second novel, The House on the Borderland (1908), uses an account of a house ‘haunted’ by swinish invaders from another dimension as a bracketing device for a series of visions, which include a remarkable account of the cosmos revealed by contemporary astronomy and the future evolution of the solar system.
