NEW HAMPSHIRE: A Poem With Notes and Grace Notes
New York: Henry Holt, 1923. First Edition, First Printing. Beautifully illustrated throughout with woodcuts by J. J. Lankes. 8vo, publisher's original half green cloth over gray paper covered boards, the spine lettered in gilt and with a gilt label lettered in gray on the upper cover, with the original publisher's printed and decorated dustjacket. 113 pp. A very good copy, internally very fine, fresh and clean, the binding with only a very small amount of age at the backstrip and a touch of rubbing to the bottom corners, the jacket present though with a bit of wear and some chipping, the rear panel more so than the front and spine panels which both still look quite nice. FIRST EDITION. NEW HAMPSHIRE is one of Frost's earlier works and also one of his greatest. The collection includes the title-poem, one of his longer works, as well as over 35 others. It includes such well known poems as; "Star-Splitter, "Dust to Snow" and perhaps one of his most often recited works "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", a perennial holiday favorite in New England and other chilly climes. Considered one of the greatest 20th century American poets, Frost also won much acclaim and popularity throughout the English speaking world. J.J. Lankes and Robert Frost enjoyed a long professional and personal association. Lankes' woodcuts beautified many of Frost's published works.
