Dampstaining, mostly along top margin. Title page has a stain and small tear (archival repair). Library stamp on title page. This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US Plates include: 1) Commemoration of the Victory of 14 February, 1794; Earl St. Vincent's over the Spaniards, off Cape St. Vincent. In the plate, Britannia, and guarded by the British lion stands on a pedestal holding aloft two wreaths of laurel. Vignette portraits of John Jervis and three other admirals, along with seventeen other officers who fought off Cape St Vincent that day. 2) Commemoration of the Victory of 1 June, 1794; Earl Howe's over the French, off Ushant. In the plate Victory crowns Britannia with a wreath of laurels. 'Black Dick' Howe as well as six other admirals are portrayed in vignette, along with twenty seven other officers who engaged the enemy off Ushant that memorable day, bringing home a victory very dearly needed at the time. 3) Commemoration of the Victory of 11 October, 1794; Lord Viscount Duncan's over the Dutch, off Camperdown. In the plate, Fame blows her trumpet in honor of Britannia who is seated in her chariot drawn along by hippocampi. Neptune returns her call sounding on his conch. The plate displays vignette portraits of Adam Duncan and Lord Onslow, along with sixteen other officers who engaged the Dutch fleet off the Texel that day. 4) Victors of the Nile; Lord Viscount Nelson's over the French, in the Bay of Aboukir. In this plate Neptune sits beneath the shade of palm tree, beside him, a horn of plenty, on the other a flowing vase. He is kept company by a sphinx, whilst in the background a sea-fight is seen against the backdrop of pyramids. Above, in the tree itself Victory acknowledges the portrait of Lord Nelson; this plate also displays vignette portraits of fourteen Admirals and captains who engaged the French fleet in Aboukir Bay that day.
