REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF CLAIMS ON A LETTER AND REPRESENTATION OF THOMAS PAINE, REFERRED THE FIFTEENTH DECEMBER LAST
Washington. 1809.. 13pp. Dbd. 19th century stamp on titlepage. Very good. This concerns compensatory payment to Thomas Paine for his work in negotiating a 1781 French loan. Paine's petition includes a discussion of the motives and influence of his political works, and part of his argument for compensation is based on the impact of COMMON SENSE on the American Revolution. Paine advanced these claims near the end of his life, when he had retired to a farm in New Rochelle, New York. SHAW & SHOEMAKER 19044.
