L'Habitat Multicoque de Grataloup
Unpag. volume (40 pp.) devoted to the modern sculptural "multi-capsule" domestic architecture of Daniel Grataloup, containing designs for a number of homes throughout Switzerland, including photographs of scale models and floor plans. Profusely illustrated throughout. Minor soiling and age-darkening. Oblong 4to. Plastic spiral-bound covers with relief design to front. Some minor losses to corners, very minor soiling. La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland (Idéa Éditions) 1974. Daniel Grataloup began his artistic career focused on etching, but after lots of travel and years of research, he began developing a construction technique which involved projecting concrete onto flexible structures. Multiple self-supporting capsules became the hallmark of his designs and constructions. Some of the designs displayed in this volume include Villa Kjellman, Villa Schneiter, Maison Binggeli, a three-capsuled family house, a two-capsuled home for an artist and their family, and a collective housing group for the commune of Douvaine, France. As of January 2018, WorldCat locates only three holdings of this volume in the United States.
