Eddy was an intelligence officer during World War II who was sent to Saudi Arabia in 1943. He became the First United States Minister Plenipotentiary to Saudi Arabia from 1944 to 1946. On February 14, 1945, a meeting, which Eddy helped to arrange, was held on the USS Quincy between King Abdul Aziz Al Saud (Ibn Saud), and Franklin Roosevelt. William Eddy was fluent in Arabic and acted as translator for both Ibn Saud and Franklin Roosevelt at the meeting. The details of the meeting are the subject of this book.
