County Durham?: N.P. c 1875 - 4to. 23.5 x 20cm. pp. Printed title with caligraphic author's name, 235. Half black roan over marbled boards, author's torn paper label to upper board. Manuscript notebook with chapter headings covering the study of stocks, shares, land surveying, geometry, interest, measuration of solids and surveys of manual labour work. 'R.W. Atkinson's book binder's label to rear paste-down. Numerous diagrams, sums and tables. Boards and corners a little rubbed. Contents in very good condition. This appears to be the fair copy notebook of a student/tutor of arithmetic, covering a wide range of theoretical and practical principles of mathematics. The opening two chapters are concerned with the fundamentals of stocks and shares. The first, 'Double Fellowship', explains the theory whereby 'different shares are employed for different terms of time' and shows examples of how this comes to be applied in reality. The second, 'Stocks', examines the prices and purchase of stocks and the expected income to be derived from hypothetical purchases. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
