Argentine (Strasbourg), printed by Martinus Flach, 1513.. Edited by Antonio Verlo, imprint and date taken from colophon, Latin text, 1513. Folio, 315 x 215 mm, 12½ x 8½ inches, ENGRAVED TITLE PAGE MISSING, full page woodcut of Christ sending forth the apostles, with monogram VG [for Urs Graf], on verso of prelim leaf a4, numerous decorative woodcut initials, printed in black letter on 2 columns, collation: a4 (-a1), b-z6, A-T6, U4 (U2 mis-signed X), X4 (X4 is a blank), leaves (3 of 4), CCLIII, foliation erratic in a couple of places but catchwords correct and text is complete, bound in full contemporary embossed pigskin over wooden boards, raised bands, old hand lettering to spine on chipped paper label, another old paper label at tail. Vellum a bit darkened, slightly scratched and marked, several worm holes in covers, remains of clasps on lower cover, corners slightly worn, couple of very small nicks at tail of spine, upper turn in on lower cover is chippped, free endpaper missing at front, endpaper and pastedown missing at rear, a couple of old inscriptions on front pastedown, crack between front cover and aii, first page of Prologus, the latter is slightly dusty and has a horizontal crease, 3 single worm holes to the margin continue to fo. 36, 2 in text to fo. 20, a single margin worm hole and 1 in text start on fo. 228 and continue, joined by the end of the volume by 1 more in text and several in the margins, no loss of legibility, slight damage to aii at the inner edge with loss of 1 word on verso, 6 neat marginal notes, occasional small pale stain to margins, intermittent small pale damp stain to lower margin at centre fold, increasing in size slightly on last 6 leaves where there is another to the upper and inner margin, few light stains on text on 1 page, no loss of legibility, a few pages lightly browned, very small closed tear to 1 margin. Textblock tight and firm. A good copy of a rare early book (lacking title page only as noted). Pietro de' Natale (fl. 1369-1400) from Venice composed his Lives of the Saints between 1369 and 1372 and it was first printed in Vicenza in 1493.
