Very good condition; small tear at the bottom of centrefold. Size: 79 x 55 cm. (31 x 21½ inches) Sea chart of the western Mediterranean from Cadiz in Spain to the mouth of the Tiber, showing the coasts of Spain, France, Italy and north Africa. Rhumb lines criss-cross the map, title cartouche at top left with three scales. Bellin was appointed hydrographer (chief cartographer) to the French Navy upon the creation of France's hydrographic office, the Dépôt des cartes et plans de la Marine.Over a 50 year career, he produced a large number of maps and charts. The accuracy of Bellin's charts ensured that they were in use for many years.
