Octavo (22.5cm); stiff red wrappers, with titling and a fireman's pole stamped in black and gilt on spine and front cover; [36]pp; illus. Inscribed by the author on the first blank page: "For Carl Weissner - my buddy in the Fatherland. Charles Bukowski. July First / 1970." A Fine copy. A major association copy of this collection of early verse, inscribed just a few months following publication. Carl Weissner (1940-2012) was German author, publisher, translator, and counterculture figure, noted for his translations of William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Andy Warhol, J.G. Ballard, Harold Norse, and others. He enjoyed a long-time friendship with Bukowski, acting as his major translator in Germany, and helping to cement his literary legacy in his native country.
