Window Flowers: Symbolical silhouettes for the Chinese New Year.
Peiping [Beijing]: Lotus Court Publications, 1948 - Quarto. Original green paper-backed boards, red paper silhouette illustration on white paper background to front cover. Slight wear to spine, spine ends slightly worn and bumped, very slight marking to covers, slight discolouration to endpapers, pages unopened. An excellent copy. With 48 red and 2 black and gold woodcut illustrations of silhouettes. First edition, first impression. "Window Flowers" were paper silhouettes with symbolic images which were intended to be pasted to windows. Sold at local Beijing fairs before the Chinese New Year, they were believed to bring good luck. Koehn's book provides 50 examples of this charming Chinese folk art.
