Margaret Preston's Monotypes. Edited by Sydney Ure Smith. (SIGNED)
Ure Smith Publication, Sydney [1949]. First Edition - this copy signed by the artist on the half title. Large 4to. Cloth-backed boards lettered in silver at spine. Decorated endpapers based on a monotype design by Preston, with just a trace of off-setting to adjacent blank leaves. Illustrated with twenty-seven tipped-in colour plates plus three small vignettes. Short crease to corner of frontispiece plate and a hint of chafing to cloth at head and base of spine. Very good indeed but lacking the dust wrapper. Edited by Preston's friend and champion Ure Smith, President of the Society of Artists and editor and publisher of 'Art in Australia' and various other journals, this is the third publication he devoted exclusively to Preston. Most uncommon. Margaret Preston (1875-1963) was highly influential Australian artist, particularly noted for her modernist work as a painter and printmaker, and for introducing Aboriginal motifs into contemporary art.. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket.
