Unpublished. 1954. Pen, ink and watercolour on paper. Mounted, framed and glazed. The image measures 27 x 16.5 cms. A brilliantly composed picture letter, drawn with great skill and a lightness of touch, indicative of the illustrations in C. S. Lewis' Narnia series and written at the time she was completing those for The Horse And His Boy. The artwork is in very good condition with a few light foxing spots to the background and some toning to the edges where the paper meets the mount. Provenance: Drawn and sent by Pauline Baynes to the Hare family on July 18th 1954. Translation in ink and a note of provenance by the recipient to the reverse. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.
