Yosemite
San Francisco: Pillsbury Picture Company, 1910. 1st. Original wrappers. First Edition. Small oblong 8vo. [20] leaves bearing 10 tipped-in original Pillsbury photographs (with captions) of Yosemite and environs. Publisher's photo-illustrated stapled wrappers. An early and scarce photographic pamphlet on Yosemite; no copies located in OCLC and unknown to the Yosemite bibliographer, Dennis Kruska. Arthur Clarence Pillusbury (1870 - 1946) who operated the "Studio of the Three Arrows" in Yosemite from 1906 to 1927, was a master of the orotone. Pillsbury, following the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire, set up his studio in Yosemite Valley and sold thousands of postcards and photographic prints to visitors. At one time, he employed a young Ansel Adams. Pillsbury also experimented with less conventional media such as motion picture technology, panoramic photography, and the orotone.
