Typed letter signed endorsing a commercial beauty product
[New York: , 1979]. Single sheet (278 x 216 mm). Printed on Interview letterhead with recipient's name typewritten, signed in black charcoal pencil. A few creases to letter as usual, overall in excellent condition. A product advertisement in the form of a typed letter signed by Warhol, part of a mailing produced when his name was at the peak of its power as a marketing brand. In a letter to an unidentified consumer, "Caroline", Warhol advertises a Shiseido moisturiser which had been recently marketed in Interview magazine: "When I put it on, it does make my skin look younger". It was mailed with a sample of the moisturiser. In 1966 Warhol had offered his services as a product endorser by placing an advertisement in the Village Voice which read, "I'll endorse with my name any of the following; clothing, AC-DC, cigarettes, small tapes, sound equipment, Rock 'N' Roll records, anything, film and film equipment, Food, Helium, WHIPS, Money; love and kisses ANDY WARHOL. EL 5–9941" (Smith, p. 167).
