Hoorn in Hollandt
Hand coloured copperplate engraving of the Dutch city of Hoorn, as seen from above. With explanatory title (Hoorn in Hollandt ) in the upper left corner and the crest of Hoorn, held up by Poseidon, in the upper right corner. ca. 1582. Overall size: 29,5 x 35,5 cm; plate size: 23,8 x 33,3 cm. Fair state. Some age related discolouration. Roughly coloured. The top of the print is damaged due to the fact that the left side of the print got stuck to the right while folding. This results in torn-off pieces of print. Handlaid paper pasted to contemporary paper. This print originates from 'Lodovico Guicciardini, Descrittione di tutti i Paesi bassi (...), Antwerpen, Plantijn, 1582'. This was an influential account of the history and the arts of the Low Countries, accompanied by city maps by various leading engravers. Deys 2001.
