Fine, in custom morocco-tipped slipcase. First edition, no. 6 of 20 large-paper copies on Japon Impérial, of a total edition of 650 copies. 32 plates (1 folding), numerous illustrations in text. vii, [i], 416, [2] pp. 1 vols. 8vo. A classic work on early French bookbinding, comprising a history of the bookbinding trade in Paris, a study of the progression of binding styles, and a useful biographical dictionary of binders.
