London: Chapman and Hall,, 1840-1. With illustrations by George Cattermole and Hablot Browne. 3 volumes bound in 2, duodecimo in sixes (242 x 160 mm). Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, red and green morocco labels, elaborate gilt decoration to spine, marbled endpapers and edges. Frontispieces, woodcut illustrations in the text, figurative initials. Some wear and rubbing to extremities, darkening to spines, light scuffing to boards, a very good set. First edition. Master Humphrey's Clock is a portmanteau containing two novels, The Old Curiosity Shop and Dickens's first historical novel, Barnaby Rudge. Of the many illustrations, most of the figure-pieces were prepared by Browne, while Cattermole completed the architectural subjects.
