London, Published by ... , 1821.. FIRST EDITION 1821. Imprint crossed out in old ink apparently by the author, and "S. Grimaldi, Copthall Court" (the author's address) inserted by hand after "Published by." which confirms this is a first edition. The first edition has 32 pages as ours and the second edition 34, see The British Library and The National Library of Wales. 16mo, approximately 130 x 105 mm, 5¼ x 4¼ inches, 9 hand coloured plates each with a movable flap and a tissue guard, 32 pages including title page. Dedication signed: S.G. [i.e. Stacey Grimaldi], dated 1820, original publisher's printed boards, "Johnson, printer, Apollo Press, Brook Street, Holborn"--colophon. Spine strengthened with cloth, boards a little dusty with small pale stains, shelf wear to edges, corners slightly bumped, small pale brown stain affecting lower corner of 1 tissue guard, occasional tiny fox spot, otherwise a very good copy of this fragile book with no damage to flaps. Illustrations of toilet articles, each hand-coloured plate has a hinged flap, which when lifted reveals the name of a virtue.
