In uniform half morocco bindings by Bumpus Ltd of Oxford. Volumes VII-XII are published by Longmans. Volumes I-X are under the original title History of England from the Fall of Wolsey to the Death of Elizabeth with volumes XI and XIIunder the revised title ofFrom the Fall of Wolsey to the Defeat of the Spanish Armarda. These twelvevolumes followTudor history from the fall of Wolsey in Henry VIII's reign to the death of Elizabeth I. With a frontispiece to volume VII, Reign of Elizabeth Volume I. James Anthony Froude was a prominent English historian, novelist and biographer. He became one of the best known historians of his time for his History of England which was inspired by Thomas Carlyle. Condition: In uniform half morocco bindings with cloth covered boards. Externally, very smart with minor rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Spines havefaded slightly as expected from this colour. Prior owner's bookplate tothe front pastedowns, Peter Emil Kroyer. Small patches ofrubbing to the raised bands of volume XI. InBumpusLtd. bindings as indicated from the binder's stamp to the verso of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright withinstances ofthe odd spot throughout. Ribbon bookplate present to all volumes. Overall: NEAR FINE..
