Fluid Geography
American Neptune Inc., Salem, Mass. [Southworth-Anthoensen Press, Portland], 1944. First Edition. Periodical. Article in 'The American Neptune', April 1944 (Vol. IV, No. 2), pp. 119-136, with folding plate 50 x 63 cm. 'World Map On Dymaxion Projection. By Richard Buckminster Fuller and Margaret Mace, A.M., Associate. Assisted by: Cynthia Lacey, Carl O. Hoffman, Truman F. Peebles, James McSweeney.' 'The map opposite page 120, which is the primary exhibit of this article, was invented for this purpose ['as a precise means for seeing the world from the dynamic, cosmic, and comprehensive viewpoint'], and while it is certain to be bettered by subsequent inventions, it is for the moment the most reliable comprehensive projection, in that it describes the earth's surface with the minimum total score of distortions from the many well-known geometrical processes inherent in translation of the angle and scale information from a spherical to a flat surface.' This is the stated 'First edition published by The American Neptune', but according to his footnote in this article it is Fuller's fourth attempt at a comprehensive world map. Stock#OB410.
