Hodder and Stoughton, London 1912 - Very near fine book of original red cloth with black titles to the front board and gilt titles to the spine. Clean pages and vibrant text. Presentation copy, inscribed on first page to his literary agent, "W.P. Watt / With all good wishes from / R Austin Freeman / Feb. 1912" with a small drawing of a face beneath the inscription. Freeman was the originator of the inverted detective story, and uses the technique in a number of stories in the book. A Haycraft Queen Cornerstone and Queen’s Quorum title.
