London - Longmans, Green and Co. 1903 - The first edition of this scarce illustrated book. Lovely condition for a book that is notoriously hard to find in acceptable order. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. Written by the co-author of An Irish R. M, Edith Somerville. Somerville was an Irish novelist who very often wrote in collaboration with her cousin 'Martin Ross', Violet Martin. She wrote fourteen collaborative novels and had upwards of eight novels penned by herself alone. 'Dedicated in Token of Ancient Friendship to the West Carbery Hounds',printed to leaf following title page. This text contains 20 chromolithographic plates andhas an alphabetical guide of short verses to Fox Hunting facing each plate. Condition: In original pictorialbrown cloth binding. Externally,very smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spine. Some spotting to front board due to damp staining, does not affect the rest of text. Internally, firmly bound. Pages arevery bright and clean. Overall: NEAR FINE. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
