New York: Swords, Stanford, & Co, 1837. 12mo, pp. 168; original brown cloth, gilt title direct on upper cover, text in Oneida; spine faded, light spotting to cover and textblock, very good. An Ayer Linguistic duplicate, with release stamp on upper pastedown. With the ownership stamp of the American ethnologist and linguist James C. Pilling at the top front free endpaper. "A translation, ostensibly in Oneida, of the English Prayer Book... but this translation, though intelligible to the people of his charge, is not written in pure Oneida, nor indeed in any dialect ever spoken by the Six Nations" (Pilling).
